July 1 – Day 1 on the PCT! Friend of a friend Scott (pictured) drove us to the Donner Ski Area Trailhead and off we went. Scott is a long time Truckee resident, hiker, and outdoorsman, and gave us much local PCT info at lunch 2 days before. Thanks, Scott!
Day 1 was high (elev 8765′), dry, hot, sunny, and windy. Patches of snow still clung to the higher points. Colorful wildflowers brightened the entire day. Donner Pass Trailhead is a popular place for day hikers with many local intersecting trails, so Lisa and I had plenty of trail company. And we met our first northbound PCT thru hiker Vita (pictured). Settled in for the night at a cooler streamside camp. Day 1 mileage – 9.5 miles.

PS writing this on July 8. Heading back on trail today after a rest day in South Lake Tahoe. All safe. Will write more when able. Love ya miss ya thanks for being here.
