Friday July 10 – Unknown tent site to Sherrold Lake (just shy of Ebbets Pass/CA Hwy 4). Today’s miles – 11.5. Total trip miles – 88.2.

Another relatively tame elevation day, but not one without it’s own highs and lows. We did have a long climb out of camp to start the day, and have learned the wisdom of starting the day earlier, particularly on the hotter days, as it’s SOOO much easier to hike in the morning’s cool. We’ve learned of thru hikers that start very early in order to take a midday siesta, and avoid the heat.

We met a couple of extremely nice hikers at lunch (pictured herein, thanks to Lisa). But the fellow hiker highlight was definitely Moon and Bernie…best described also by Lisa in the accompanying photos and narrative.

We had our eyes on tonight’s tent site all day, and it didn’t disappoint as we got a cozy spot tucked by the lake. An interesting bonus was seeing an American flag planted at the top of a cliff (zoom on photo), that is apparently installed each spring and removed each fall by a private group.
